Anyone rent a timeshare?
Has anyone ever rented a timeshare for vacation? If I understand it right, people who own them may not be able to use it at that time and may rent it out. We are looking into going to Destin, Florida for vacation and renting a timeshare seems a little cheaper.

We have many times...always in Cancun though. The site we've used is www.redweek.com They are a broker site. YOu can find people with weeks to rent in the place you are looking for.
We use timeshares because we like to have living space...not just a hotel room...plus it allows us to cook breakfast & lunch, saves a ton on eating out.

Yes, we have too. Sometimes through an agency, once directly from the owner via "a friend of a friend." Never had a problem and, like Miranda said, a lot nicer than having just a hotel room.

We loved our timeshare vacation in Orlando. Our friends own a timeshare there and we got a really good deal. The best part was having a washer and dryer. We didn't have to pack many clothes because of that. We also saved a ton of money by buying groceries and eating in most of the time. I really think that cooking our own simple meals was easier than eating out and of course a lot cheaper too.

Check out the site VRBO we use that site all the time. These are people's private homes or condos that they rent out part-time. Most have pics, so you can see what you will be renting.

We own our timeshare and love it. It is so nice to have an apartment to stay in. There is alot of brokers out there that you can rent and or buy. There is always something to do on the premise so you don't have to leave if you choose to have a down day. I think you are making the right choice.

Thanks for the advise. I have looked at VRBO several times. I have also checked out Redweek. I just don't want to get scammed or anything!

We rent a condo when we go to Florida.
I agree, it's so much nicer than a hotel
room. Have a great time." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. We own a timeshare in St. Martin and rent it to friends when we don't go. We also have rented other timeshares. We would never stay in a hotel for vacation -- it's so much more expensive and a timeshare gives you the chance to not only save money on the rental, but in not having to go out to eat.
