I love the pom pom project also. My husband once bought me a rose bush so I could get my own roses. He also told me to stop supporting Hallmark. That was years ago. I think he misses the cards and all the other stuff-He is also a tight wad. I mostly do things for my kids. I used to always give them a Valentine and some chocolate and I also used to do something for their classes at school. Glad I don't have to do that. Other things Serve red jello from old heart shaped jello molds.Set a candlelight dinner for everyone. I try and do a red theme.

make flowers out of straws and tissue paper. Very easy to do and you can make an entire bouquet for a fraction of the cost of a real rose!

for my kids- i use to always have a flun plush tpy that i bought the year before for 75% to 9-% off at a store .
then as they got older we did a cake or cupcakes - pink pancakes for breakfast - we would make a heart shaped burger or meatloaf -
i never really did much as far as cards - .*~Debbi~*

You could do rice krispy treats, tinted pink and cut into heart shapes.
How about a coupon book for the 7 year old that has coupons for a special dinner, a special lunch, a special treat~~kind of like McDonald's gift certificates.
Maybe you can sew a heart shaped little pillow or hand puppets from some socks and scraps of fabric for the 2 year old?
Another idea is to take permanent markers, a plain t-shirt (one you already own) and make a Valentine's shirt for each of them. Just make sure to use permanent markers. Or you could make a Valentine's pillow case using a plain case you already have and the markers.
