    Default No Registry

SO's granddaughter is getting married to a terrific young man and we are so happy for them. We got the invitation and are excited to go - I'm already trying to find an appropriate dress. There was no registry sent with the invite.

So - My standard gift is salt, wine, bread in a nice basket w/ a saying that I can't remember right now, but something like "Salt so you will always have flavor, Wine so you will always have laughter and Bread so you will never know hunger.

We don't know them that well and I personally cannot see giving them a gift card.

    Any other ideas?

I love it! I was thinking about Tightwad Gazzette or a Dave book, but if you don't know them that well, it may not be appropriate. I love your basket idea!

My standard wedding gift is a safe - WalMrt sells a smallish one that fits under a bed for around $30. EVERYONE needs one, and no one else will think of it.

Being a non registered soon to be bride (we have more then enough to get our lives started) I really like your basket idea. It shows creativity and some thought was put into it.

Laundry basket filled with scrubbies, rubber gloves, pack of toilet paper, paper towels, scrub brush, whatever.

    Or

Box full of staples: bag of flour, bag of sugar, vanilla, salt, hot pads, baking sheet or whatever.

Both of these make great group gifts too.

One of my cousins will create what she calls char lady by day, French maid by night out of large sponges, wash clothes, cookie cutter, toilet scrub brush, plunger, bucket/trash can and some other things. I'll need to find my pictures to show you. It is really cute.

I would go with your basket idea. Print up the saying when you find it, use nice paper, a pretty font, it will be a memorable gift, it is so unique. (I may have to steal the idea if there are any weddings in the future)

I really like the wine/bread basket idea.

I didn't use a registry when we were married. I wanted gifts that required a bit of *thought*, not just picked off a list - and I've always felt weird asking for specific things..... that's just me though

I love it, and I'm sure they will too!!!

Love your idea and have already stolen Mary's safe idea and made it my own!! What kind of salt do you give - Hawaiian salt would be different - let me know if you want me to send you some!!

I also love the basket idea - my staple gift: down pillows with Mr and Mrs embroidered pillowcovers.

You guys are so creative! We didn't register for the wedding, and we recieved lots of picture frames, glassware, household items (but I already had a house). the most creative gift we recieved was someone gave us a card stating that they would make us a photo montage of the weding after it was over. It came out beautiful.

I like that idea! I'd throw in a Better Homes and Garden cookbook. I didn't know how to cook and someone gave that to me as a gift...it really shows how to do things step by step and instructs on setting the table, pairing foods, emergency substitutions, etc
