So many people on a frugal website, paying to have a dress cleaned, preserved, and boxed up for no use.
We only got married a few months ago, but I found my wife a place that will convert her dress into a quilt or lap blanket. We may have to find some more fabric, though, since she is pretty small.

Got married 5 years ago and was keeping my boxed and preserved dress in my parent's office basement... which got flooded. Fortunately, my dress made it through the flood. Instead of spending another $200+ to have it done again, I bought the materials offline for about $30 and did it myself.

Nope. It got ruined in storage at my parent's house before my girls were of age. I'm ok with that though, it was jinxed anyhow.

My wife wore my mom's wedding dress. The Freudian implications were too icky to contemplate, but the two women seemed to really enjoy the connection there.

Yes, I still have mine, but I never had it preserved or cleaned either. It was actually a ~sample~ bridesmaid's gown that happened to be white. I fell in love with it, the minute I laid eyes on it because it was victorian styling, and when I put it on, it was like it was made for me. Not a SINGLE alteration required. I know for sure my mom fell in love with it too, or maybe I should say she fell in love with the $50 price tag.
I knew my mom and dad were struggling. The iron foundry my father worked at, had just shut down about a month prior to my date, and they were paying for the reception.
So yup! Still have the dress, and the hand made full length vail. And BTW....thinking of Fern's size 3, my size 8 dress still fits. YAY! Not bragging here, just saying. I've been WELL past size 8 many times thru the years. This just happens to be a pretty "light" year....lol!

I still have mine, 11 years married, 2 years divorced.
Just one of things you forget you have. I should look to consign it. Its not like I'm ever going to wear it again or be a 110lbs! Ha!Judy

I have thought about selling it a hundred time and did hang it in my shop for a while but now it's home again. I think I'm worried I feel regret later.

After reading this I decided to add it to the yard sale pile. Lets hope it sells this Saturday and I don't have to change my mind again.

I wore a very simple sheath-style dress. I chose a very small, simple dress intentionally.
DH wanted to elope, but I wanted a traditional Catholic wedding and he indulged me. As a semi-compromise/nice tradition, we renew our vows whenever we take a vacation. I just throw the wedding dress in our suitcase and we find a local official to perform a blessing. So far, we've renewed our vows in that same dress in Costa Rica, the lower Antilles, Thailand and Cambodia. It's been very reaffirming.

Got rid of mine years ago, it was a business dress and I wore it for that (got married in a Judge's office, not a formal thing).
I also heard of a woman who turns wedding gowns into christening gowns...a thought that appealed to the recycler in me!

yes. It's a simple, ivory summer dress - changed a few things around, and replaced all the buttons, and I've worn it since -
still hangs in the closet, but doesn't take up much space - I suppose one day I'll donate it..... or make something else out of it - just not yet. It's only been 16 yrs
hmm.... but maybe I'll make something out of it for our 25th?? His dress blues are still in the closet also. I should take a quilting class, because I'd love to join the two in a quilt - THAT would be cool!Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die
