I have a question, have any of you preserved your wedding dress?
I got married 6 1/2 years ago, and right now, my wedding dress is in storage, and not stored correctly. I can't afford to pay a cleaner nearly $50 to preserve it. What should I do? I either need to store it correctly, or sell it.
My Mom's wedding dress yellowed, she just left it hanging in the closet for over 30 years though. I am not sure when it started to yellow, but I tried it on about 8 years ago and it was yellowed then. It wouldn't fit me anymore though, I would have to lose about 30 pounds to wear it! I wish you luck with either getting it perserved or selling it. I don't have one yet, but I think selling it would be difficult for me (very sentimental).

the cleaners in my area charge $250 and up for wed dress cleaning and preservation. In your case...since it's been so long and you don't want to spend the $$ I would look up how to properly store fabric and go that route. I have heard that you don't want anything plastic encasing it etc. You want to wrap it in a clean cotton sheet (or something to that effect).

I paid the big bucks to have my wedding dress persevered. I took it out last December to see if my veil would work for my DIL --- I was so upset (if you look in the archives, you'll find my thread on it). The veil was just wadded up in a ball -- the lace got tangled in the illusion and it was all shredded . . . . my dress was yellowed and there was a HUGE tear in the upper part of the skirt (definitely NOT there when I took the dress to the cleaners).
So my advice would be to save the money --read up on the proper way to store it, and do it yourself.
