    Default Help! Storing Breast Milk!

    Hey Frugual Mamas,

I am SHOCKED at the price of the plastic breast milk storage bags, $13 per pack of 50 near my house and no coupons to be found! I pump 3-5 times a day and could easily go through $26+ of milk bags per month!

Any advice for a frugal and safe way to store and freeze breast milk?

    I can help with that.

You can use just normal frezzer bags, the cheaper they are the more likely they are to leak but I used them and they were fine and easy to date.

Also you can pour the milk in to sterile ice cube trays, put them in to large freezer bags to keep them clean while they freeze and once they are frozen transfer them in to 1 bag and you can just take them out and defrost them when you need them...

I loved doing this because there was less EBM waste as DD was either having 1 ice cube or 2 LOL

Yep, the ice cube thing is the way to go. It is also nice when you start feeding them cereal because you can take out one ice cube to put in their cereal.

Later on, I used those same ice cube trays for homemade baby food.

I either just used regular plastic bags or froze it in a bottle.

I use regular ziploc bags, but I'll have to try out the ice cubes. Sounds like an awesome idea!
