Writing Goals for 2006
I was just curious if any of the writers here at the Village have any writing goals for this year?
My writing goals are:
Finish editing the novel I am working on
Doing the rewrite on the above novel
Seeking publication
Trying to find some freelance work with the local newspaper

I'd like to get another manuscript finished this year. I have a couple of ideas in the works, just need to decide on one to finish. Unfortunately the one that is closest to being done is not my favorite.
Just a word of friendly advice. Be prepared for more editing and another possible re-write after you get a publisher involved. I think it's better to be prepared for that possibility and not have it happen than to expect your manuscript to be published word for word the way it is and be shocked when that doesn't happen. I had a lot more work to do once my editor got involved -- but I am so grateful to her. The book is so much better than I ever imagined. And there is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed over if the publisher does do a lot of editing or even asks for a major re-write. When it comes to publishing they are the experts -- after all that expertise is why we get a publisher involved instead of self publishing.
I've been wanting to do something like an art exhibition or art business or writing workshop in your neck of the woods for awhile. I guess maybe getting that arranged will be a goal for this year.

My writing goal is to get my book to an agent or a publisher who is interested in publishing it. I'm ready to re-write or do more editing if they deem it necessary. It's just time to take that next step.
