Default Writers come out of your closet!

So, do we have any active writers here? I love to write and had my own column in a magazine last year. I mostly write inspirational and humor articles. Come out of hiding so I can meet you.

I like to write, but I'm not sure I'd consider myself a writer. I do blog though.

How do you become a writer, career-wise. I've always heard how hard it is to get published in anything. I'd love to know more about it if you have any message boards, websites, etc. that you could point me to.

I may not be where I need to be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be.

~I wish I could say I was an active writer. Does posting on Frugal Village count? (hehe) I haven't written very much since I've had my kids. I'm always so drained that I can't draw anything else out. Do share some of your work! What magazine were you published in? I sure could use some of your inspirational columns right about now!~

I've written some short articles for magazines, some longer technical articles for work journals, etc.

I'd love to write a children's book, but would step on my sister's toes, so I don't.

My daughter has had many poems published.

I'm a former technical writers and have been playing around with a novel I hope to finish soon for many years.

I've written humorous stuff and a book review every now and again. I'm (irregularly) on the staff of the New York Review of Science Fiction.

Yes, how did you get published and in what magazine? I've enjoyed writing in school and took a creative writing class in College. I need to devote some time every day to writing, but I need to get some things in perspective first. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, and I feel like if I get content within myself, I'll be able to write then. I know people write out of their experiences, but I don't think I could sit down and concentrate right now.

I've had articles published in Woman's Day Magazine, IL living magazine, AJN, RN, etc.

Most of them approached me to write a specific article.

I write an (almost) monthly column for our local town montly, the Otis Gazette (www.otisgazette.com). It's called "The Nature of Things - A Science Column for Kids". I got busy and missed August, but I'll have something in the September issue.

It's not big time, but I'm hoping to be "discovered" someday.

I've been working on a cookbook, but I'm a long way from getting that ready for a publisher.

I'm a writer too - I've had a book published and am just putting the final touches on my cloth nappy (diaper) book. I've also been published in various print and online magazines.

My dad and I have a small publishing company so I'm always working on something or other.

    Great thread!

Wow, that's terrific everyone! I haven't written anything in a while. My gig for the column ended...the magazine took a different direction and no longer needed a humor/inspirational columnist.

Anyway, right now I'm too dizzy to focus on any writing. This new frugality thing has me spinning with ideas on how I can pay off my house and save tons more money! Plus, in the summer I never do much writing anyway.

I'll get back to it soon, though.

I used to write in college. A long long time ago, I was on the staff on the newspaper there. I used to write quite a bit, but never been published. Mostly I wrote for my own enjoyement and sanity. I havent written much lately. I am putting together research for something I hope to write about my father and his family.
