The gender of my recent nephew was not known until he was born, but I decided to make a little quilt for him since babies tend to wiggle the first year or so. I took strips of fabric that read as colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet), sewed them together for one side, got some other material with parrots and leaves on it (my husband calls it parrot salad) for the back side, and for the middle filling I used a scrap of flannel. Babies tend to not do too much in the way of moving for the first year or so, so I call it a wiggle mat. I'd like to make some pieces that could be buttoned or velcroed on at a later date so he has a blanket to grow with him. (eventually borrow it back to sew all together permanently). --submitted by anonymous
