Snowman Painted Cookie Candy Jar

E-mail Print PDF

Special thanks to Lori aka Captclearance

This is an easy and frugal craft. I have done many of these in many sizes, this is a mayo jar but I have done them in 1 gallon jars (both glass and plastic) for cookie jars.I entered this one in the Il. State fair and won the blue ribbon.

You'll need:
1 jar and lid, you can use glass or plastic
White paint. any acrylic paint will do, even white house paint can be used.
1 small piece of orange fun foam for nose
A black felt pen
A fine line paint brush
Black paint.
Pink paint for blush on face
Gold paint ( you can't see them in this photo, but I painted little sparkles on
(shaped something like an asterisk *)
Clear coat spray.I buy the cheap one at Walmart for .94c a can.
A scrap circle of fabric for hat.
Raffia for hat.
Hot glue gun.
A couple scraps for patches on hat and a couple buttons.
A small piece of batting for the lid...just to make it a little puffy.
***********************************************

Paint the jar white. It may take a couple of coats.
When dry, paint on face, and message at the bottom of jar
(I put... "Let It Snow") When all painting is complete. Spray a couple good coats of
clear coat spray to keep paint from peeling. Cut the circle of fabric for hat, cut it a
couple of inches larger than the lid. Cut the batting the same size as the lid.
Place the batting on the top of the lid and the circle of fabric over that. Using the hot glue gun, secure the fabric all the way around the lid. Tie on the raffia. Add patches and buttons to hat with glue.Cut a carrot nose out of fun foam. Using a felt pen, color the edge of the carrot and make marks around the carrot.Glue to face.

You can see the hat in the photo....
