Make Your Own Homemade Dog Shampoo

If your dog has sensitive skin and you don’t feel comfortable washing her with a shampoo that contains ingredients you can’t pronounce, you can make your own at home.

We found a wonders dog shampoo recipe that will have your pooch smelling her best and will leave her fur touchable soft.

Gee, Your Fur Smells Terrific Dog Shampoo Recipe

1 cup ground oatmeal
1 cup baking soda
4 cups warm water
1 tsp dishwashing liquid (I used method’s clementine dishwashing liquid, because it’s natural and biodegradable)
5 drops of lavender oil or peppermint oil

  1. Grind oatmeal in coffee grinder or food processor until it has the consistency of flour.
  2. Put all ingredients in a mason jar or container of your choice.
  3. Shake well
  4. Apply the shampoo to your dog’s wet coat, and massage it in for several minutes before rinsing. The baking soda will get rid of doggy odors and the oatmeal will soothe and cleanse your dog’s skin.

Oscar is not a huge fan of bath times, so I only give him one every couple of months or so. This dog shampoo recipe not only left him smelling terrific, but his fur was really soft too. Because Oscar is a little fellow, I cut the recipe in half, as he didn’t need all that shampoo. Feel free to add or cut the amount according to your dog’s size.

I do have a question adding dish soap, could burn their eyes, I was thinking about baby shampoo, they sell a nice lavender scented baby shampoo at the dollar store and I have used it, but I like this idea of the oatmeal and baking soda and the other ingredients. Thank you for this recipe.
