Simple DIY Christmas Stockings for Kids

As the Christmas holiday approaches, the excitement your children feel will continue to grow. Keep them busy in the days leading up to the holiday by helping them with DIY Christmas crafts like these simple homemade stockings. You can even let your kids choose what to stuff their stockings with!

  1. Simple Felt Stocking – To create a simple felt stocking, simply draw a stocking of the desired size and shape on a piece of paper, then cut it out. Take a piece of felt in your chosen color and fold it in half. Place the stocking pattern on top of the felt and cut out two pieces. Line the two pieces up on top of each other and either glue or sew them together along the edges, leaving the top of the stocking open so it can be filled. Then, just let your child decorate the stocking as he sees fit!
  2. Recycled Sweater Stocking – Have you been wondering what to do with that old Christmas sweater that your child has grown out of? Why not use it to make a DIY Christmas stocking? Simply draw a stocking shape on a piece of cardboard and cut it out then place it on top of the sweater. Trace the pattern onto the sweater then sew along the lines before cutting it out. Make sure to leave the top open and backstitch the beginning and end to prevent the sweater from unraveling.
  3. Dip Dyed Stocking – Start out by buying or making a plain white stocking of your desired size and shape. If you are making the stocking, use plain white cotton fabric to make sure that the dye absorbs well. After preparing your stocking, mix up a few batches of fabric dye in your chosen colors. Then, simply dip the stocking into the dyes, let the excess drip off, and let the stocking dry.
  4. No Sew Stocking – If you want to make a simple stocking without any sewing, this is the perfect pattern for you. Start out by drawing a stocking template on a piece of cardboard or poster board and cut it out. Then, choose some holiday-themed fabric and cut out two pieces using the fabric. Next, fold around the edges to make a hem and iron them flat, then use fabric glue to hold them in place. Then, simply glue the two pieces together, leaving the top open! You can also feel free to decorate the stocking as you see fit.
  5. Paper Bag Stocking – For a DIY stocking that is simple and easy to make, all you really need is a large paper grocery bag and some glue. Draw the pattern for your stocking directly on the paper bag and cut out two pieces. Glue the two pieces together along the edges, leaving the top open. Then, simply decorate the stocking with paint, glitter, pompoms, and whatever else you have on hand!

These DIY Christmas stockings make for a fun holiday craft for your kids and they can also be given away as gifts. Just let your kids go wild with paint, glue, and glitter to create their ultimate Christmas stocking – they will be eager to hang them on your mantle!
