Does this taste like applesauce when done but of a thicker consistency? I've never had apple butter, and I really should try to make some because I ask about it every time it's mentioned

Oh, and another question...you have cinnamon listed twice in the ingredients. Should the 1/2 tsp be something else like nutmeg?

Thank you for posting all of these delicious recipes!

I am sorry about the ingredient mis print..yes, it should be 1/2 tsp ground cloves...it was getting late, I think, and my mind took a little vacation.
It is much thicker, and it is delicious if you spread it on bread or toast. My hubby sometimes just makes a apple butter sandwich and he thinks its great!

Made this with sweet apples and 1 1/2 t cinnamon and 1/2 t nutmeg, no sugar. I found all kinds of recipes that called for using sour apples and adding sugar. Since DH and I don't like things super sweet, that's what we did.

Also, i found two or three recipes that talked about being careful of scorching. One recipe at recipezaar uses copper pennies to help prevent it! I didn't stir it a lot or use the pennies and had no problem in my slow cooker.

I left it with a bit more texture than commercial apple butter too, but not a lot.

This is good! I'll be doing it again and again. Easy too.

Started about 3 lbs of apples just as we sat down to dinner, apples were washed, stems removed, that's it. Just before bed time, 3 hours later, I turned the crockpot down to low. When we got up I took the lid off and stirred it some to get rid of the extra moisture. It cooked, uncovered for probably an hour or two.

This was so easy, I wonder why I've been paying Smuckers for apple butter all these years!
