Visited the Apple Orchard this weekend.
Our family went to a local Apple orchard open house yesterday. We went up in the orchard and picked lots of apples. My children look forward to this event every year. Anyway, we have a half bushal of apples now. So I was wondering what everyones favorite thing to do or make with apples is? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

We went apple picking this weekend too. We already made our first apple pie, but tonight I think we'll make Apple Plop (which I find much easier since I don't have to make pie crust.)
Apple Plop:
Peel 5 or 6 apples, slice into pieces and put into a pan.
Sprinkle with a mixture of 1 tbs sugar & 1tbs cinnamon.
Melt 1 stick butter, add 1 egg, 1 c sugar & 1c flour and mix with a fork. Plop over apples.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
We always serve it hot with vanilla ice cream on top.

We love them chilled in the refig then sliced. I've invested in 2 core/slice thingys. The teens over the ease of cutting up an apple with one push.
I like cooked apple slices with cinnamon and nutmeg.

We are planning a visit to the apple orchard in the next few weeks.

Right now I have my dehydrator full, it's been running all night.
My crockpot is also full, it too, has been cooking all night with some stewed apples to go in the freezer.
I have 3.5 more bags to go with hopes of getting even more in a few days!
I like making "fried apple pies" with mine.
Healthy? No.
But good? Oh yeah!!!
I will take my stewed/fried (dried can work as well, as long as you rehydrate them and cook them with some sugar, butter & a bit of cinnamon) apples and take a can of biscuits.
Roll out the biscuits, put a couple spoonfuls of apples in each one.
Fold over the biscuit to make a half moon shape.
Crimp around the edges with a fork.
Fry in oil until golden.
We eat these as is, even cold.
But you could defiantely do a hot one with some ice cream-mmmm, mmmm!!
We will also eat just the crockpotted stewed apples with hot biscuits on cold mornings.
I LOVE the FALL season!!!Michelle in middle Tennessee!
Ever so slowly rebuilding my stockpile...
