Apples, apples everywhere .......
I had a friend and her dd over and dd's bf and we have been doing apples all day.... we picked 3 laundry baskets full of macintosh apples from a neighbors tree a couple of days ago and today we picked 4 baskets full of granny smith apples off of our tree..... (We have at least another 3 baskets left on our tree......
we made ......
6 quarts of cinnamon red hot candy apple sauce.....
9 quarts of regular cinnamon apple sauce ( left a little chunky)
(we have an additional 4 quarts in a container in the fridge, we will be making crockpot apple butter out of it)
24 quart bags of freezer apple pie filling
Tomorrow we will be finishing the apple butter, making apple jelly and caramel apple jam ..... we are also drying very small apple chunks for apple pancake mix and apple muffin mix....
We will be printing muslin bags on the computer and putting the muffin mix, pancake mix and apple crisp mix in seal a meal bags and putting them in decorated muslin bags..... The girls are giving these to there Mother's for Christmas and dd will use hers to cook a holiday breakfast and make holiday pies and desserts.
I bought a good apple peeler a couple of days ago and LOVE it !!!!!!
It peels, cores and slices the apples all at once.... It made very quick work of the apples......
We had these very long curly peels that came off of the apples and we dried them in the food dehydrator and now we have this very cool "Apple raffia" to use for the baskets that the girls will decorate with the dried apples and apple raffia ....
Here is a pic of an apple peeler like I bought.... it was $20.00 but I love it. It will also peel potatoes........
