    Default Mulled Apple Cider Mix

    Mulled Apple Cider Mix

    2 T. loose tea leaves
    4 tsp. whole cloves
    1 T. whole allspice
    2 cinnamon sticks, halved
    1 cardamom pod, crushed
    1 tsp. dried orange peel
    Cinnamon sticks to give


    In a small bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients and mix well. Store in a resealable plastic baggie. Store in a cool place. Give with serving instructions and additional cinnamon sticks.

    To serve: Combine the cider mix with 1 gallon of apple cider, and 1/2 cup of sugar in a large Dutch oven over medium heat; cover and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Strain and discard the mix. Serve hot with cinnamon sticks. Makes 16 cups of cider.

    Makes 1/3 cup of mix.

    With Autumn around the corner, I thought I'd add a couple more cider recipes.

    Hot Mulled Cider

    8 cups apple juice
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    dash nutmeg
    6 cinnamon sticks
    1 tsp. allspice
    1 tsp. cloves
    orange
    8 cloves


    Combine in a large saucepan. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat; Cover and simmer 10 more minutes. Serve in mugs with a clove studded orange wedge in each.

    and another:
    2 qts apple cider
    10 whole cloves
    10 whole allspice
    4 4-in sticks of cinnamon
    1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

    Combine all ingredients in a Dutch oven. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 mins. Remove from heat and discard spices; serve hot. Yield; 2 qts

    How about some hot wassail? Yummmm.

    Hot Wassail

    4 cups Unsweetened apple juice
    3 cups Unsweetened pineapple juice
    2 cups Cranberry juice cocktail
    1/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
    1 Cinnamon stick
    3 Whole cloves
    Lemon slices
    Combine all the ingredients in a large kettle and simmer for 10 minutes. Serve hot.


    Hot Cranberry Wassail

    2 1/2 qts. cranberry juice
    1 qt. grape juice
    2 cups water
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup rum
    1/4 cup orange liqueur
    orange slices

    Heat juices, water and sugar to boil. Remove from heat. Stir in rum and liqueur and garnish with oranges. Serve hot to keep friends and relatives warm this holiday!
