Need a new fridge
So much for building up an EF before I start some hard-core debt reduction in January.
I've already asked around to see if anyone has a spare they can lend me for a short while (you'd be surprised who does & which spouse wants that hunk of junk off the porch), but unless the leads I have pan out, I'm going to have to buy one. I've checked the local Goodwill, but they don't have appliances. Lots of people have suggested I check out the "dented appliance" store because there are lots of deals there. I'm sure there are & I will be checking, but I'd rather not buy a new fridge.
Thanks for letting me whine about this. If anyone has any other ideas where I can get a free/cheap fridge, please let me know.

The local freecycle group imploded on itself.
But that is a good idea! Thanks!

We just bought a new low-end fridge from Sears. We went through the same thing you're going through and couldn't come up with a new-to-us fridge either. We asked around, and looked on Craigslist and freecycle but we live in a rural area and there's not much out there. We figured at least we'll have a warranty with the new fridge, and Sears gave us free-after-rebate installation and hauled the old one away for $10. Good luck, I hope you find a fridge.

check an apartment complex. my dad and brother are converting apartments into condos and they have tons of appliances they are getting rid of granted, the garage fridge we got is from the 1970's and needs a new seal(sp?), but a few bucks and we have a fridge.

not sure how big a town youre in, in texas but i would def try craigslist. - if youre anywhere near dallas and can haul, then i know a place where you can get a really decent used one for around a hundred.

In Cleveland there are a bunch of used appliance stores. They garbage pick them, fix them, clean them, deliver them and most of these places give you at least a 30 day warranty - which is about how long you'll need to see if everything works right.
I used to buy all my washers and dryers from these places. About $100.00.

Thanks for the Craigslist suggestions. I'll check that out. Unfortunately, I don't live close to Dallas (I'm on the border), but I will be checking used appliance stores when I visit San Antonio next week, since I'm also in the market for a deep freeze. Thanks everyone! You rock!
