How To Make Hard Candy
This year for Christmas I decided to do hard candy for gifts. It was a great success! I wanted to share it with all my FV sisters and brothers. If you have any questions, just ask and I'll be happy to answer.
First you need the following ingredients:
3 3/4 cups - White Sugar
1 1/2 cups - Light Corn Syrup
1 cup - Water
2 tbsp. - Favorite Flavor Extract
1/2 tsp. - Food Coloring, optional
1/4 cup - Confectioners' Sugar, for dusting
In a medium saucepan, stir together the white sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook, stirring over a medium heat until the sugar dissolves, then bring to a boil. Without stirring, heat to 300 to 310 degrees F, or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold waster forms hard, brittle threads.
Remove from heat, and stir in flavored extract, and food coloring. Next, pour onto a greased cookie sheet, and dust the top with confectioners' sugar.
Let cool, and break into pieces. Store in an airtight container.
That's it! The one in the picture is spearmint, but we also did butter rum and strawberry flavor. I ended up packaging them in cellophane bags with curling ribbon and they looked great.
Enjoy!

Yum! Love the pics you took. Hubby makes his own peanut brittle to give as a gift to his Mom & Dad every year. A candy thermometer isn't very expensive and is important to have.
Thanks for posting your tutorial Debbie!
