    Nope, not in the crockpot. Well, unless they are kidney beans. They have to be boiled before they can be put in a crockpot. They have some sort of a poison in them.

    good to know, never heard of that before. so with kidney beans pre-boil before putting in crockpot and pre-soak too?

    The beans are cooking. Put some onion and diced up leftover ham with a clove of garlic. Now i can go and lay down.. Happy Bean cooking!

    I do. I've had better luck with the beans cooking better and faster after I've soaked them overnight.
    Just make sure you rinse them really well before adding them to the slow cooker.
    I like to add a small ham hock or bone and 1 or 2 diced onions with mine. I've added a little diced garlic before, it was pretty tasty, but DH prefers his beans without...gave him indigestion...
    Except red kidney beans...One of the above posters mentioned about some type of poison in them... read about that somewhere...supposed to boil them first...then cook...Before I decide to cook these, I need to look into this a bit more...don't remember everything in that article.
