  1. It's been a long time...

by , 12-14-2015 at 05:53 PM (Creative Call)
Well I guess I should update a bit. We finished the kitchen renovation the end of November 2014. It came to $35,000. We were not impressed. Over $10,000 was electrical work. We needed to reroute around some knob and tube wiring and add a new electrical panel. While the ceiling was down we had them run wire upstairs to the bathroom and the sewing room. They ran some extra circuits up there to rewire the entire upstairs as we update one room at a time. Not likely to happen. We'll be downsizing ...
  2. Week 2 of the Renovation

We discovered we should not be using the garden hose to fill the water jug. So we went out and picked up an RV water hose from Walmart for $12 CAD to do the job. Other than that, the system works great.

Hubby is reacting to all the dust and fumes from the renovation. This could get interesting. We will be airing things out as best we can every night. Hopefully it will not get too cold.

The freezer meals are holding up. Hubby and the boarder have lots to choose ...
  3. Renovation Started!

It started this past week. Tuesday the contractor arrived with help and started ripping out the kitchen. It took two days. Then the electricians came. They were supposed to take one day. They were here for two and will be here for two days next least. They found active knob and tube wiring throughout the house. Code says they have to remove it. Uhoh. Our renovation budget just exploded. Electricians do not come cheap.

We picked the paint colour for the kitchen walls ...
  4. Finished Mega Cooking

I finished my mega-cooking for the month of September in preparation for the renovation. Hubby thought he would not have to do any dishes all month. I had to enlighten him that there would be plastic storage containers and pots from side dishes that needed doing. And that we would need a bucket to put in the basement sink to wash dishes. The basement sink is disgusting. It is a cheap one and will no longer come clean.

    So...the meals made?

  5. Renovation Looming Large

by , 08-23-2014 at 06:11 PM (Creative Call)
The kitchen renovation is looming large. DH and I rearranged the dining room to make room for the fridge and stove. DH thinks he can just switch the stove outlet around to the dining room for the duration. Hmm... I am hoping the microwave and fridge won't blow the circuit in the dining room.

Me? I'm busy planning freezer meals to make things a lot easier. Also some crockpot meals. Next week is my last week to fill the freezer with meals for the renovation. It will be a frenzy. ...
