A weekly journal of life on Mad Hen's ranch.
The week started with a snow storm that left me snowed in and without power for about a day and a half. Happily, a 4wd vehicle allowed me to escape my little snowy prison, but the roads were so dangerous, with fallen branches and crazy drivers, that I spent most of the first part of the week hiding out, surviving with the help of a lot of firewood and plenty of snow to melt to use for water. The animals suffered more than I did, as they had no heat lamps to keep them warm. The dogs came up in the
I posted a thread at the beginning of the week entitled "First Day of the Last Month of the Year," in which I stated that I wanted to start my new year right by starting my resolutions now. When the new year hits, I want to be already up and running, so I have to start now to hit my stride.
I was very excited to pay off my second-to-last credit card last week, and that leaves me with one to focus on. I intend to have it paid off by the end of 2010, which will free up about
Wow, the year is flying by. Thanksgiving already this week, and Christmas looming on the horizon!!
I am never a huge fan of Thanksgiving, because it requires a four-hour round trip on my part to go see family who I can see pretty much any time of the year, and most of whom I don't particularly care to see any time of the year. I should really be calling this entry "two weeks on the ranch" because things got so crazy last week, I forgot to post!!
A big part of the crazy was the arrival of Crash, a three-month old Labrador Retriever puppy. He has certainly kept things interesting!! And because he came to me from a vet, with injuries that had to be treated, I have spent a lot of time in the last two weeks driving to/from the vet's office!
I am still in the process of completing the
Work kept me very busy this week, so not a lot of time left to sit and enjoy life here on the ranch. I expect the next couple of weeks to be a bit hectic, as well.
The perfect sourdough starter continues to elude me, so that challenge (set in October) will have to continue into this month. I am also going to try to cook what is a staple for most, but what I will have to admit to never trying - a pot roast!
A whole week of no animal drama!! That has to be a record!
