So, 2011 has started and it is a new year and I have new goals for myself. I am newly single, but have a I'm not totally on my own. He is sure teaching me a lot about self-control and budgeting. He made up an elaborate budget linked to a ledger so that I can track my expenses better. I'm excited to be using it.

Here are some things that I'd like to do this year:

1) Keep Grocery Budget to $100/month
2) Keep Eating Out Budget to $100/month
3) Lose 15 lbs
4) Get Lasic eye surgery
5) Use a budget every month
6) Keep minimalizing
7) Do a better job of maintaining my blog
8) Save more money

I have done little things gradually that have helped with all of these things. To save more money, I have reduced my spending and have been sticking to a budget. In 8 days, I have spent $26 on eating out, whereas last month I was over $100 by this time. I am also cutting the trash service by the end of the month, because I can't substantiate that expense anymore.

To minimalize my life, I have stopped recording and watching several TV shows that took up hours of my time each week. The main show I have watched for 4 years is Days of Our Lives. It is 5 hours each week that I just don't have time to watch anymore. It has taken me about 3 months of recording, then erasing the shows to actually delete it from my permanent recordings. But last week, I deleted it! I have been whiddling down my "junk" e-mails so I only receive the ones I want.

Today I plan on making a trip to the grocery store and paying bills since I just got paid yesterday.

We got rid of cable about a month in a half ago and I have more time to do what I really want. Not to mention, some of my shows are online or will be released on DVD and I can watch them when I want to relax. So WTG on the letting go of a show that takes up a lot of time!

I used to be hooked on a lot of the "talking head" shows and would watch them every evening. That was about TWO hours per day, five days a week. Now, weeks can go by without me turning on the t.v. and I don't miss it. I do listen to a lot of podcasts, but I can plug in the earpiece and do other stuff while I'm catching up.

AGREE about the budget. I just started keeping one this month, and I am a changed person!!
