I thought I'd make a quick post here about my cash envelope system that we also started this month.

This month I'm using just regular 'ole mailing envelopes, regular size, not business sized.

But the other day while at Wal-mart, I purchased a 25 count box of these:

(This is just to use as reference to give you an idea of the ones that I bought).

I figured these would be much sturdier, plus I can re-use them for several months because I have alot more room for writing on the fronts than just a regular sized envelope.

Here is the video that I talked about a few weeks ago that gave me a really good overview of a simple, cash envelope system:

We use cash for only part of our budget categories:

~entertainment
~kids school
~clothing
~groceries
~misc.
~prepaid calling cards
~home maintenance/projects
~dining out
~pets

All of our other categories are left in our checking account to be paid either by check or debit card.

I thought this might come in handy for someone else.

Love it, I use the envelopes when we go on vacation, whatever we got in the envelope is what we spend, plus i then log all the items purchased via debit and cash on the envelope, so can keep track!

It is amazing to me how weird it seems to use cash for paying for things nowadays.
When 10 years ago, it was either writing out a check or paying with cash.

Using this cash envelope system has really caused me to watch what I spend alot more closely as well.

Yeah, I looked at one of those accordian style/coupon holder thingies, but what I didn't like was that there wouldn't be any place for me to make a quick note about the balance.

So I decided that the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Sweetie) system always seems to work best for me.
I paid somewhere in the ballpark of around $2.88 for 25, I didn't think that was too bad.

I know that D.R. sells an actual envelope system 'wallet' type thing on his website, that you can carry in your purse with you, which would be super handy, but for now, I decided to go the cheaper route.
