The much anticipated rain did not materialize today so we were able to get some work done in the garden. We harvested the last eight heads of cabbage and the last of the green onions. This emptied one bed with the exception of two rows of beets. I tilled the ground and planted second crop corn and beans. We also planted more summer squash and cucumbers elsewhere in the garden. We will freeze the cabbage tomorrow. It should have been done today, but by the time we were done, we were both hot and tired. Just before dark, we bugged the potatoes. I have gotten good chemical control of the Colorado Potato Beetle this year. It is getting close to time to dig so I did not want to have to wait two weeks after spraying. They were loaded with bugs. My hands were red with bug juice after mashing them. I had it running down to my elbows. My wife, who is the smart one in the family, wears gloves so as to protect her hands from cross stitch staining gunk. I, on the other hand, wore a white shirt. As I tell her, she is the smart one and I am the pretty one, so we make a good team.

Cute comments, I'm sure that your wife appreciates them!! Great gardening. How do you freeze cabbage? When it thaws what is its consistency and how do you use it?

Have your hands returned to a normal color or are they still red?

We use the cabbage in soups and other cooked dishes. It is especially good boiled with potatoes on a cold winter's night.

My hands have returned to their normal color. Even though I can pull off many looks, I guess I wasn't that pretty covered in bug juice.
