I went to the doctor today. He is an internal medicine specialist. My sugar was high- probably from all the chips and dip I ate this week. He answered all my questions on meds and how each one worked, went over the interactions. He put me on a new med to increase my insulin production and told me that would control my sugar nicely as it is usually elevated after the lunch meal. I asked him about diet pills, artificial sugars and told him I was walking and would start running soon and he told me not to run it was bad for my joints. I asked if I could get it in writing as my husband thinks walking is not good enough. I also had mentioned that I had read wine was supposed to lower blood sugar and since it is a juice usually Diabetics should not have it. He said that is correct but that wine did lower blood sugar. I told him I drank 1/2 glass 2-3 times a week. He said drink one glass a day it would also help my cholesterol by raising my HDL's. So I get to drink and not run. He also went over my diet and spent more than 2 hours on the visit. About 30 minutes was spent with the nurse. He went over my diet one on one with me and went over exchanges in detail. His appointment was worth the over one month wait.
