My Journey on the Frugal Side of life

This is a personal challenge to put into action what I have learned about being frugal and to live a more purposeful life.
I have always loved to journal, this is a place I can put down my thoughts and keep myself working toward my goals and more in control of my spending. Maybe others will be inspired in some way as well.

Quickly checking in to catch up on reading threads and posts. Also an update on debt repayment.
My dh changed our plans on how to spend our tax rebate. We were going to make an extra payment towards our home equity loan. Instead....He has been wanting to trade in his 2 door pontiac G6. It had 113,000 miles on it and was not practical for traveling with our day care clients. The back seat was useless. Most of us couldn't get in and out of it. After much discussion I agreed he could trade it ...

It has been a year since joining the Frugal Village forums and living a frugal lifestyle. I have learned a lot and developed many frugal habits. My husband has also changed his spending habits. Our debt has significantly been reduced in the past year by reducing our spending and using the savings to pay off debt. We continue to snowball payments. As of today we have just one loan left as we paid off another loan. I am grateful for the inspiration the members of this forum have given me. Thank you. ...

Back home safe after 22 hours on the road. We just missed the freezing rain and snow on our route. Our friends weren't so lucky. They took off for Wisconsin 45 minutes later than us and needed to stop and get a hotel for the night because of the road conditions. We saved on hotel stays coming and going.
In summary, we spent less than 1/2 of what we have spent on past vacations. I slept in everyday until 8 or 9 a.m., my usual rising time is 5 a.m. We ate all but 2 meals from pantry of ...
  4. Day 6 of semi-frugal vacation

by , 02-01-2014 at 08:26 PM (My Journey on the Frugal Side of life)
Another uneventful day except for church and we asked friends out for supper to thank them for their hospitality this week. We went to a seafood restaurant. They refused to let us pay their share of the bill because of the prices. We couldn't talk them into letting us buy so we saved $$. Otherwise no spend for me today.
I am so ready to start on our way back to Wisconsin tomorrow. I miss home, I miss my grown kids, I miss our dog, I even miss my work. I have appreciated the ability ...
  5. Day 5 of semi-frugal vacation

The weather warmed up today. yeah! Ice and snow gone from Myrtle Beach. Worked out in the fitness room in the a.m. and then went along to the golf course with the guys. Walked most of the course for exercise, fresh air and some sunshine. The birds were lively and as happy as me to have warmer temperatures. The guys used a coupon to get $5 off a round of golf and they gave us a 2nd golf cart for free so I could ride the cart. Very friendly staff. The course was Whispering Pines which just happens ...
