Learning to be frugal, pay off debt and be a man of integrity

  1. Life moves on..

Well, this week promises to be exciting:

    - I should be hearing back finally on my certification attempt (required for work). I did the beta exam and for that, a pass is a pass. If I don't pass, then I'll have to try the regular exam, of which I need 85% to pass.

    - I should also be getting back forms from my g/f's mom, who I asked to be my guarantor for my birth certificate (stage 1 of the name change thing). Once I get those, I'll send them off to Ontario Registry ...
  2. I am finally me...

Well, at least legally. I'm going to the lawyer's today to pick up the certified copies of my name change (for trans individuals this is a huge step) and begin the journey to get new birth certificate, new Canadian SIN (Social Insurance Number), new Canadian passport, new US VISA, new US SSN, etc.

Not looking forward to this. But I was frugal about the whole thing. I only cost me the basic costs (e.g., submission of name change, necessary forms, etc.). Lawyers' ...
  3. I discovered something today..

I decided, after watching Maxed Out, to go and redo all my credit card debts. One thing stood out. My CDN Amex available credit seemed lower. When I checked on my US site, I discovered I couldn't do this (at least I haven't found an option). I may call them and ask them to lower down at my request. That ability to lower ...
  4. Falling off the wagon.. and then off the cliff!

by , 06-23-2009 at 09:43 AM (Hiding under My Blue Blanket)
Ever have those huge falling off the wagon moments and then tumble off the cliff in the process? I've been going through that lately. I'm not sure why other than that feeling I could do it. In reality there are really only two things that will cause me to do that: deals on cigars (bad, I know!) and bicycling (good stuff!) deals. I can say that I looked for the deals and deals that were 45% or more deep as well as questioned myself repeatedly to whether I really needed it versus wanted. There were ...
  5. Saying "Yes" to life

by , 04-19-2009 at 10:36 AM (Hiding under My Blue Blanket)
Ok. Ill admit this upfront. I know Im weird for not being a big fan of Jim Carrey but Im not. I like his more serious, darker work like The Number 23. Now I agreed to watch Yes Man because its one of Ks recent favourite movies. While predictable at some points, it is a simple sweet movie. What I found most profound was the message tied in the movie itself. Basically, its the premise that if we remain open to possibilities we live life more. And this is a very true statement. It seemed ...
