A week on the ranch (April 6 - April 12, 2009)

Whew, what a week!! Seems like I was running non-stop on a treadmill that just kept going faster! Today was the first day I had a chance to stop and take a breath, and when I look back on the week, it is a huge blur of activity, not much of it fun!
Another storm came through on Tuesday and stuck around until Friday morning. Lots of rain and cold weather, and the poor animals just tried to stay dry and wait it out. I knew how they felt!! The chicks did great, though, and seemed to actually enjoy the change in the weather.
I spent all my free time this week mixing up concoctions for my craft booth and knitting. The rainy weather kept me inside, and most nights, I got home too late to get much done.
On Friday, I hauled about 120 fresh eggs up to my mother, as I had arranged to meet her for lunch. She forgot about me, though, and was nowhere to be found, so I ended up having lunch with my sister. Turned out to be a good lunch, as my sister and I discussed the benefits of eating local and of growing your own foods (something that her conservative husband calls liberal hogwash) and she is going to make a concerted effort to try to eat more consciously.
Then, today, I helped a friend of mine set up the first garden he has had in over twenty years. So I feel as if I helped save my little teeny corner of the planet this week.
My March skill was to learn how to knit a sweater, and I learned the last few bits of it yesterday, so I can count that as a skill learned, although the sweater still needs its sleeves. I hope to have it done by this coming Thursday, which is the date of my next class.
The weekend was beautiful - sunny and warm. I feel as if my head has been up in the storm clouds all week, and I've just been moving forward blindly. But with the nicer weather comes a new focus, and I'm back on track to living an aware life again.
