Who says growing your own veggies saves money?

Spent $29.23 in gardening supplies today. Last month, I had to set up raised beds in the dogs' run to protect all future veggies from the ground squirrels. Had to buy the wood for the frames, and then I had to buy hardware cloth, to keep out the gophers. Followed by tomato cages, which, when expanded, act as a pretty good fence to keep my dogs out of the beds. Followed by bags of garden soil, because the run is set up in such a way that a truck would not be able to back up with a bulk delivery of soil. Right now, I'm watering by hand, but will have to go out and get a new hose and drip line, so I won't be a slave to hand-watering daily.
I keep telling myself that this stuff will all last for years, and so I can amortize the cost over the years, and my veggies will EVENTUALLY cost less than grocery store veggies, but for this year, if I factor in the cost of the beds, I will have some of the most expensive veggies I've ever eaten!! Maybe that will make me appreciate them that much more....
