  1. January 14th in a California Garden

    by , 01-14-2011 at 07:45 AM
Well, the weather has not been cooperating this week, and we went from heavy fog to a freeze, then straight to rain.

The most exciting thing that is happening garden-wise for me is my indoor tomato experiment. I have an heirloom tomato plant growing in my kitchen, and it is consistently (albeit slowly) producing tomatoes for me. It even produced a few blossoms, so I'm watching to see if those become tomatoes! I am nursing it along, hoping to put it outside again in spring, but ...
  2. A week on the ranch (January 1 - January 9, 2011)

A little over a week, actually, but I wanted to start on the first of the year, and I also wanted to keep my blog entry at its previous format of ending on Sunday evening. We'll call it a week, for convenience.

This week was bracketed by bad weather up on the ranch. Not horrible, storming, driving rain, kind of bad weather, but the miserable, grey, foggy kind of stuff that just gets down into your bones and makes you want to spend your entire day in bed with the electric blanket turned ...

  3. January 7th in a California Garden

This time of year, there isn't much to report. The ground is too wet to plant anything, and the weather is too cold for anything to germinate. The most exciting part of this month was the beginning, when ALL the seed catalogues started showing up! Time to plan and dream!

One thing I have been doing is saving yogurt cups, so I can start a few seeds inside in March or early April. I may also try buying some started plants this year, as well, but I haven't made up my mind yet. The plants ...

  5. A week on the ranch (December 27 - December 31, 2010)

    by , 12-31-2010 at 07:40 PM
    And thus another year ends....

Happily, all is well on the ranch. Other than several days of storm, followed by a few days of below-freezing nights, it is a typical winter week here. No emergencies, no blackouts, and after two weeks of promises, the phone company even got my phone working again, so I am happy.

I think I neglected to mention, last week, that somebody backed into my truck. Luckily, they didn't do any damage to the body. Unluckily, they must have had something ...
