  1. A week on the ranch (February 15 - 21, 2010)

    by , 02-21-2010 at 11:28 PM
Spring gave me a little teasing appearance this week, and I was in short sleeves, soaking up rays while recuperating from my back procedure. But it was a short-lived spring, and the end of the week brought overcast weather and, ultimately, rain.

I did a quick walking tour of my fruit trees: the grapefruit and lemon trees are still loaded with fruit. I can't eat it fast enough, especially the lemon, so I'll be either freezing some lemon juice or dehydrating lemons again soon. ...

  2. A week on the ranch (Feb 1 - Feb 14, 2010)

Weird. I missed a week and didn't realize it. I thought I was caught up. Sorry about that, if anyone was wondering!

February has, thus far, been a month of ups and downs. Animal-wise, Chewy is still recovering from his ACL injury (sustained in late January), and I've rigged up a very Rube Goldbergian/ghetto/white trash enclosure for him, so he can participate in his favourite activity (sitting in a sunny spot and watching the world) in the morning but not wander off too far. ...

  3. A week on the ranch (January 25 - 31, 2010)

    Another rough week here.

The worst thing I have to report is that Rosebud, my goat, lost her fight to recover from her dog-bite injuries. The vet came out to check on her, and after we talked, I decided to let him euthanize her. I wasn't expecting it or intending it, so it was kind of a brutal shock to my system, but I realized that she was in pain, and even though she was fighting like crazy to survive, the likelihood that she would make it was very small, and it would require ...

  4. A week on the ranch (January 17 - 24, 2010)

Wow, I'm working off some major bad karma. This week has been crazy bad. Rosebud, my goat, doesn't appear to be regaining the use of her back leg, although the infection seems to be backing off. Then Riley managed to tear two of his stitches. In the middle of a kick-a$$ storm that made driving downright dangerous, so I just kept an eye on the incision, hoping for the best. (Happily, he was within a day of the number they told me he could go before we could take the stitches out.) Then yesterday, ...

  5. A week on the ranch (January 4, 2010 - January 17, 2010)

Okay, so it's technically TWO weeks on the ranch. I got anti-social and took some time away from the community. I spent all my computer time doing mindless things like playing Mafia Wars and building up my corporation in Ponzi. Every once in a while, I become very reclusive, and unless I forcibly break myself out of that mold, I just get worse and worse. I almost didn't post to my blog today, but I find that forcing myself back into a routine is the fastest way to actually get there!
