  1. 05/04/2009 - P.H.A.T. Chick Journal

    by , 05-05-2009 at 12:27 AM
I haven't been keeping up with this, and my diet and exercise habits have been slipping with my non-accountability.

That said, today was not the best day to restart the journal, but here goes...

Eaten today: 2 cups of coffee, 1 slice of pineapple upside down cake, a yogurt with granola cereal topping, a bowl of veggie soup with a flour tortilla, a small caramel macchiato from Starbucks, approx 1/3 c. raw sunflower seeds, approx 1 c. mac and cheese, and a swig of soymilk ...
  2. Second shopping trip for May 2009 (already?)

    by , 05-05-2009 at 12:13 AM
I didn't HAVE to go shopping tonight, but Safeway had chicken on sale for .79/lb, and the sale ends tomorrow, and I really wanted to get some for the pups, so I decided to go. Found some other great deals while I was there.

    The list:

    Chicken (approx 17 lbs at .79/lb) $13.40
Beef back ribs (approx 19 lbs at $1/lb) $19.00
Organic frozen corn (2 bags) $6.00
Organic mixed veggies (2 bags) $7.00
Bag o' shredded cheddar cheese $4.99
    Tunafish ...

    by , 05-04-2009 at 01:08 AM
A productive week, overall. I worked on my garden beds and planted quite a few veggies, so I feel as if I have a good head start toward relying on my own resources this spring, at least as far as veggies/fruits are concerned. I missed out on bare root walnut trees and on potatoes, but got most of the other things I wanted to plant in the ground. I'm also eyeing covetously an olive tree at the nursery down the road. The local farmers' markets fire up this week, so I'll be buying local produce ...

  5. Who says growing your own veggies saves money?

    by , 05-01-2009 at 11:07 PM
Spent $29.23 in gardening supplies today. Last month, I had to set up raised beds in the dogs' run to protect all future veggies from the ground squirrels. Had to buy the wood for the frames, and then I had to buy hardware cloth, to keep out the gophers. Followed by tomato cages, which, when expanded, act as a pretty good fence to keep my dogs out of the beds. Followed by bags of garden soil, because the run is set up in such a way that a truck would not be able to back up with a bulk delivery ...
