  1. January 5th - Spice creations, old glass jars and the pierogi disaster!

    by , 01-06-2009 at 10:28 AM
I was going to write this before bed, but it slipped my mind. Therefore, you get the decaffeinated version this morning!

Last night at around 8:30pm, I got this itching to make baharat spice rub. It's a spice mix that's used in many Middle Eastern recipes, mainly having to do with meat. DH and I have a soft spot for donairs, which are Lebanese in origin and are made in two ways across Canada: Halifax has their own version and the Western Canada part has theirs. There's a place near ...

  2. January 4th - Last day of vacation, new meal successes and a disaster room!

    by , 01-05-2009 at 12:34 AM

That's the way I feel right now. I feel gross and tired and still sick from the ear infection. One bright spot in all this gross feeling is that there's less cotton-ball-in-the-ear time today! Now all I have is a plugged ear that I'm leaving well enough alone...

but onto the bulk of what this blog entry is about!

Today was the last day of winter vacation for everyone. DH is dreading tomorrow because he's slept past 5:30am for the last two weeks. I'm looking ...

  3. A meal to add to the fast food diversion!

    by , 01-04-2009 at 12:29 AM
So today being day 3 of our No More Eating Out Challenge, I figured that I would make the kids something new in hopes it would turn them away from wanting cheeseburgers out on the town. We do love our A&W but it's both unhealthy and really expensive. Therefore, I figured that one of the two alternatives to us eating out at any burger joint would be to make something that the kids would hopefully enjoy.

I got this awesome Bisquick cookbook back a few weeks before Christmas. Inside ...

  4. January 2nd, 2009 - Boxing Week sales and the ear infection drama

    by , 01-02-2009 at 05:55 PM
Today I had to go to fill my amoxicyllin prescription and pick up Matthew's refill for his Risperidol at Superstore. I figured that while I waited, I'd see what they had left from Christmas. I was surprised! There was soooo much left still, this being a week after Christmas. I snagged some wrapping paper, ribbon and name tags and did it for $3.24! I'm so proud of myself. Four new rolls of paper, four boxes of ribbon eggs and a box of peel and stick gift tags that would have been normally 50% to ...

  5. Welcome 2009! What's on the schedule this year?

    by , 01-01-2009 at 06:40 AM
Here it is! It's January 1st and I'm all sorts of excited about the new year!

I may not be feeling as well as I had hoped, but at least my mental outlook for the year is completely and utterly positive. I need it to be or things may not go as I had planned. So what are my plans? Here's a look!

My two main goals for this year are debt reduction and finishing my book. Oh, and I have a few more smaller goals: meal planning and no more eating out. The book and debt ...
