  1. Could someone please help us eat all of these potatoes?

    I sprouted our potatoes yesterday. Due to the warmer than usual weather, they sprouted early this year. Normally, they keep until mid-Spring. I am not sure they will last that long. I don't have a good place to keep them. I use the space under the basement stairs. I dug more potatoes than ever this year. I ended up storing around 275 pounds. We have been eating them in every conceivable way. We have sworn off rice and pasta. Potatoes are our only starch for the foreseeable future. I have ...

  2. Finally, some good news

    The much anticipated rain did not materialize today so we were able to get some work done in the garden. We harvested the last eight heads of cabbage and the last of the green onions. This emptied one bed with the exception of two rows of beets. I tilled the ground and planted second crop corn and beans. We also planted more summer squash and cucumbers elsewhere in the garden. We will freeze the cabbage tomorrow. It should have been done today, but by the time we were done, we were both hot ...
  3. Beautiful Rain

    It has rained for the past two days. Everything looks so much better. It was starting to get dry and the plants were showing it. Now, after the rain, everything looks one-hundred percent better. The seedlings just coming up suddenly grew overnight. The potatoes will get full benefit of the nitrogen applied Monday. Sunny days are nice, but there is nothing like a much needed rain.

    Confession time ~ I LOVE FRENCH FRIES! Canít help it, I love them. I canít eat them much anymore with this hinky gall bladder so I am always on the lookout for a decent recipe for a potato dish to take their place. I found one on allrecipes that sounded good so I adapted it to my likes. These are really good ~ give them a try.
