    Default Pita Bread

    Pita Bread

    Recipe Description
This bread is so delicious...far better than store bought pitas.

The picture attached shows my first attempt at making them. I obviously need practice in making them round
    Preparation Steps:
    Preheat oven to 500º
    Level of Difficulty:
    Easy
    Time Needed:Ingredients:
    1 1/8c. warm water
    3 c. all purpose flour
    1 tsp salt
    1 T. vegetable oil
    1 1/2 tsp sugar
    1 1/2 tsp yeast
    Serves:
8 pitas; recipe can be doubled
    Directions:
Put in bread machine on dough cycle.

When done put onto lightly floured surface and roll into 12" rope.

Cut the rope into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, and then use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a 6"-7" circle.

Put onto cookie sheet and cover with towel and allow to puff a bit (about 30 min).

Bake 4-5 min without opening oven!! until they become puffy and lightly brown-don't burn.

Remove and place in brown paper bag or cover with damp towels to soften them. Store in fridge, can be frozen.

And they're also good with tuna salad in them.

I need to make more of these; they are a huge hit. I am thinking of doubling or tripling the recipe so I can freeze some.

That sounds delicious, and Dave is a big chicken caesar salad fan. Maybe I'll add this to the menu rotation
