Pita Bread
Pita Bread
Recipe DescriptionThis bread is so delicious...far better than store bought pitas.Preparation Steps:
The picture attached shows my first attempt at making them. I obviously need practice in making them roundPreheat oven to 500ºLevel of Difficulty:EasyTime Needed:Ingredients:1 1/8c. warm waterServes:
3 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 T. vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp yeast8 pitas; recipe can be doubledDirections:Put in bread machine on dough cycle.
When done put onto lightly floured surface and roll into 12" rope.
Cut the rope into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, and then use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a 6"-7" circle.
Put onto cookie sheet and cover with towel and allow to puff a bit (about 30 min).
Bake 4-5 min without opening oven!! until they become puffy and lightly brown-don't burn.
Remove and place in brown paper bag or cover with damp towels to soften them. Store in fridge, can be frozen.

I need to make more of these; they are a huge hit. I am thinking of doubling or tripling the recipe so I can freeze some.
