    Easy Tortilla


    Recipe Description
    This is a fast and easy way to make a tort. These are yummie by themselves with just some butter, or a snack with some cheese inside, or with a meal.
    I double the recipe so I can cook once and have plenty for a couple meals and snacks. They store well in the fridge in ziplock bags (or bread bags).
    These are also great with a little cinnamon and sugar on.
    Preparation Steps:
    Get a big mixing bowl.
    a pastry cutter or two butter knives.
    A cast iron or no stick pan. (cast iron works best, but you can use about any pan for these.)
    I get out everything that I will need to make these.
    It makes mixing them easier.

    Easy
    Time Needed:
    About 15 minutes in total: about 5 minutes to mix with a 10 rest time for the dough.
    Ingredients:
    5 cups Flour, 2 Tablespoons shortening,
    2 teaspoons baking powered,
    1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 and 1/2 cups HOT water.
    Serves:
    depends on size you roll them. I always double this one and get about 25 torts
    Directions:
    5 cups flour.
    2 teaspoons baking powder.
    1/4 teaspoon salt.
    stir well and add
    2 Tablespoons shortening, blend with pastry cutter or two butter knives.
    cut shorten in to look like cornmeal.
    Then add 1 and 1/2 cups HOT water.
    Mix well and add more flour if needed to make a soft dough. Knead until soft, oil the dough a little and put it back in the bowl and let it sit to relax for about 10 minutes. Then pinch off a gob of dough about the size of a golf ball and roll. Cook in cast iron pan or non stick pan until little bubbles show on the top or until its as brown as you like and turn.
    Keep stacked and warm by putting in a pan with a lid, cover with foil, or a clean dish towel until ready to eat.

    Thanks for posting this recipe, Patty. You reminded me how much nicer fresh, homemade tortillas are.... i smell quesadillas in my immediate future.
