How much sugar do *you* use? 1/2-1 cup is a pretty big range, so I'm wondering what you've found works for you.
Do you use more for more tart apples like granny smith?

I'm going to make this. I'll let the sweetness of the apples and whether or not the applesauce is sweetened or unsweetened determine the amount of sugar. I taste most all my batter before I take the bowl off the mixer.
I'm going to make a batch exactly as the recipe indicates. A second batch will be made substituting the oil for equal amount of applesauce. That will change the amount of sugar required as well. I'll be taste testing that batter as well before taking it off the bowl.
I like that Raven gave a range. Often a recipe just calls for more sugar than I like.

See but you are unable to do it "exactly as the recipe indicates" because it's impossible to add 1/2 c-1 cup of anything to a recipe. One needs to pick a measurement in that range and then make it, so the recipe--as written--can't be made exactly.
And in this economy, I don't want to be wasting ingredients with proportions that she may be able to caution me won't work for whatever reason.
That's why I asked. There was no criticism in my question. I just wanted to hear her experience when making it herself.
I hope that made sense. I'm fighting a cold here, and it already felt like it was going to explode before I attempted to make myself clear hereLast edited by Michelle; 03-29-2009 at 09:44 PM.

This sounds really good for a quick back to school breakfast. I think I'll try it in muffin form too.

To those who try this , please post amount of sugar used and type of apples. I'd love to try this one.
