Irish Soda Bread
Irish Soda Bread
Recipe DescriptionMakes one loaf of traditional Irish Soda breadPreparation Steps:Level of Difficulty:EasyTime Needed:40-45Ingredients:3 tbl. butterServes:
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tbl. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup raisins (opt.)
3/4-1 cup buttermilk6-8Directions:Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Cut butter into it as if making pie dough. Stir in raisins and enough buttermilk to make a soft dough . Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Shape into a round loaf and place on a greased baking sheet. Cut an x into the top of the loaf. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 35-45 minutes. Brush with additional butter if desired.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I've never tasted this sort of bread. How would you describe it? Is it like a biscuit, but lighter?

~I haven't made this recipe but when I made soda bread last month it had a biscuit texture. Soda bread is kinda like a huge scone, soft and sweet.
