Maybe not a "frugal" purchase...
But we're real close to buying a 2002 Fleetwood Storm 31' Class A Motor Home.
It's a great price and we've put in a loan application w/ our bank. I'll let y'all know if we get it soon.

Hope this works out for you. We have a class A and we love it. We have had some great trips with our kids. They have got to see a lot of interesting and historic places. I can't begin to tell you how much fun we have camping.

Heidi,
That's exactly what I'm thinking. My dd just turned 2 and my ds is almost 7 and we're already thinking of the places we can go even just on the weekend. Things we can do and see that would be so much easier in the Class A or any RV than in our small sedan, KWIM?

I say enjoy it but are you sure it was worth the purchase right now with the economy the way it is? JMHO.
If you can afford it and the monthly payments, more power to you.

Oh, how fun! You won't regret it one bit! We have a trailer that dh and I just LOVE to use. We didn't have one when the kids were younger so we tent camped. But if there is one thing we did absolutely right when raising our kids it was taking them camping - and a LOT. They both still love it, we love it, and we have fabulous memories from all those years. Nope, you won't regret it one bit. Enjoy!

My dh is a Major in the USAF...active duty. His job is as secure as they come right now. The note will be right at $400 a month and if we have enough to itemize on taxes it falls under a 2nd home and we can deduct the interest. Our rate is 6.39%. Besides our mortgage on our home in Alabama which we are renting we have no debt!
When we move from base to base we will save a ton of money and still get our BAH (allowance for housing) while we will be paying very inexpensive rates for camping at the FAMCAMP (on base campground). The only "unexpected" factor is if we get overseas orders and my parents have room on their land to store if for us.
We're only paying right under $5k over the pay off of the lein holders from the individual we are buying it from. I'm sure we got a great deal.
The only hold up now is signing all our loan paperwork. My dh is on TDY right now and will be home in a few days. I put a deposit on it. The big PIA is getting it registered in IL since that is dh's home of record.
I'll post some photos in a few...

Paula, nice pics of the motorhome. You will have so much fun. My son was 3 weeks old when he went on his first camping trip.
My husband was in the air guard but is no longer in.

You will love having the RV. We had one when our kids were younger and we have such wonderful memories of camping at the lake and taking vacations in it. It is a wonderful investment, you will have priceless memories made in it.
