Old pop up need help!
We were given an old pop up camper. It is fine except for some holes in the canvas wings near the bottom. Can I duck tape those for now? We don't want to buy new wing covers quite yet until we see how much we are going to use the pop up.
Also, and please don't laugh, I need ideas for an air conditioner in there. I have a seizure disorder and extreme heat brings on seizures. I saw a table top ac unit at Kmart for $110. It would cool the entire area of the pop up. The previous owners just used a fan.....
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

My dad did that when we were kids, I don't remember there being any problems.
No ideas for the ac though sorry.Last edited by danni; 03-20-2009 at 04:39 PM.

Have you seen the portable A/C units that Costco and Sam's Carry? I think that would work well.
If you go to a RV supply store I'm sure you can get Awning type patches. That'd work well, and might be less noticeable.

Your best bet is to ask about pop up issues at Pop Up Explorer.
Post your question about the canvas patches in the Fix It forum and the AC in That's Not A Stock Pop Up forum. People have installed window AC's in pop ups and if you ask about it, you'll get detailed info on how to do it.
I don't think most portable units will have enough power to cool a pop up.
Also ask about adding reflective covers to the bunk ends, which will reflect sunlight and make a huge difference in solar heat gain.

We use one of those rolling personal a/c units for parties on our back porch and it works very well for a small area with lots of people so I can only guess it would work even better for a few folks in a small area.
As for patching when our 1960's vintage Starcraft go holes in its canvas we sticked them closed using a curved needle and canvas thread. Don't know where Mom got either but we live in boating area and canvas shops abound.
Glad to hear your not letting your illness slow you down! Go for it girl.

Easiest way to patch up a tent trailer is to use canvas cut a touch bigger than the hole and glue it on with clear silicone .. we have a very old tent trailer and have done that to all of our holes - keeps out the water and is a permanent fix ... doesnt stand out like duct tape would either.

I've seen duct tape used over a hole on a plane wing, that I was flying in. I'm sure duct tape can be used on your camper.

Thanks everyone! I am a big fan of duck tape-in college my VW van was pretty much held together w/the stuff(lol).Good times in that van. I drove all the way from VA to OR in it....
I'm not sure what route we will take. If I can find some canvas I may try that...
