I don't agree with all of these and a couple of them look a bit unsafe, but there are some interesting ideas here!

Stop trying to organize all of your family’s crap. If organization worked for you, you’d have rocked it by now. It’s time to ditch stuff and de-crapify your world.
If you're not using the stuff in your home, get rid of it. You're not going to start using it more by shoving it into a closet.

That's one of those I think is sort of unsafe, since cans are lined with plastic now. Maybe that's why it's been years!
I like the gallon jug with the headlamp idea. We always carry a gallon jug of water to refill the dog's water bowl on the road, and of course have plenty of headlamps along, so that would be a quick easy lantern without carrying anything extra.
