anyone make hm caramel popcorn?
Not popcorn balls, but kinda like crunch and munch or sorta cracker jack like?
I'd like to make some with Zachary when he's home on holiday break, but am always apprehensive on trying a recipe that hasn't been tried. lol I've got to get over that and live a little. rofl
I found this one:
Homemade Cracker Jack
2 sticks butter
1/2 cup white corn syrup
1 Tbs. Vinegar
2 cups brown sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup peanuts
5 quarts popped corn
Boil butter, corn syrup, vinegar and brown sugar for 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and add baking soda, vanilla and peanuts. Pour over popped corn and stir. Bake for 1 hour at 250* F. stirring
every 15 minutes. Cool before serving.
It seems kinda no fail.

I used to make it all the time, but I've lost my recipe. Yours has all the right stuff in it, except vinegar, I never used that. I remember bringing the butter, corn syrup and brown sugar to a boil, then adding the baking soda and vanilla........... It wasn't hard to do, rather sticky, but even the clean up wasn't bad.

I make mine in the microwave using a large paper grocery bag.
3 1/2 qts popped corn
1/4 c. white karo syrup (any white corn syrup will do.
1 cube marg. or butter
1 C. brown sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Place popcorn in brown paper bag. ( I use the air popper and shoot it right into the bag...1 batch is the 3 1/2 qts.)
Mix brown sugar, marg, syrup, and salt in 2qt microwave safe container. Boil on full power for 2 min. Remove and stir in soda. Mix until well desolved. Pour over popcorn, and stir, then shake bag well. Cook for 1 1/2 min. Shake bag again to stir..Repeat 1 more time. Spread on cookie sheet to cool. break into peices..
