    Brenda, Avalanche Bark is soooooo wonderful my grandmother use to make it when we'd go to Mississippi for Christmas.

    Baby Ruth Bars

    1 1/3 cups margarine
    2 cups brown sugar
    1/3 cup white corn syrup
    8 cups oatmeal
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 cup peanut butter

    Melt margarine. Add brown sugar, syrup, peanut butter, oatmeal and vanilla. Put in 9x13 cake pan. Bake 350 for about 15 minutes. Topping:
    6 oz. package. chocolate chips
    1/2 6 oz. package butterscotch chips
    2/3 cup peanut butter
    1 cup chopped nuts/peanuts

    Melt together and spread on top.

    EASY PEANUT CLUSTERS

    1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
    1 (12 oz.) pkg. butterscotch pieces
    3 c. salted Spanish peanuts

    Melt chips. Add peanuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper and let cool.
    Store with wax paper between each layer so they won't
    stick together.
    Cover peanut can with wrapping paper (Christmas,
    etc.) and stick matching bow on plastic cover. Don't forget wax
    paper between each layer.

    Makes a great Christmas gift.

    Hermits

    1 cup vegetable shortening
    2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 cup cold coffee
    3-1/2 cups flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    2-1/2 cups raisins
    1-1/4 cups broken nuts

    Mix shortening, brown sugar and eggs thoroughly. Stir in coffee.

    Stir dry ingredients together and blend into shortening mixture. Mix in raisins and nuts. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.

    Heat oven to 400 degrees. Drop rounded teaspoonsful of dough about 2 inches apart onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until no imprint remains when cookies are touched lightly in the center.

    Makes 7 to 8 dozen
