Default How much do you spend on chocolate chips when they are on sale?

A local store used to mark the Ghirardelli chocolate chips down to $1 a bag around this time of the year. Now they are on sale for 3 bags for $5 so $1.67/bag. I had stocked up a few years ago, I bought about 40 bags, and now we are starting to run out. We make lots of chocolate candies for Christmas plus we make lots of cookies for school snacks. Since I haven't bought chocolate chips in so long I don't know if this a good deal and I don't know if I should wait and see if another store has a sale on chocolate chips later this Fall. Help?

I usually buy Hershey's fo $2. Nestle's are more expensive here. Wally World had the Hershey's for $1.50 last week when I was there and one of the grocery stores had choc chips for 3 for $5. So, it sounds like you're paying about the going price. Plus those Giardelli chips are soooooo good!! But I usually don't get them because they are usually more expensive.

Not being a chocolate connoisseur, I use generic chocolate chips. In fact, this past week a local store had Nestle chips on sale for $2.27 a bag, and I had a coupon that would make them $1.77 a bag. Well, the store brand chips regular price is $1.69.

I didn't buy the Nestle. I didn't buy the others either, because my actual objective was stocking up. LOL I'm going to wait until closer to the holiday season to see what kind of deals can be had. So my rule is, cheaper than store brand.

I spent 1.59 a bag last time I bought them. That was about 3 weeks ago and they were the store brand.

think i spent about 1.67 for the hershey chips a few weeks ago before my coupon. i wasn't happy with the generic ones the last time i bought them, so it's back to name brand but which ever is cheaper. this month it's hershey's.

I pay .99 for semisweet at Aldi's and around $1.50 for Hershey's at the grocery store. It's expensive, I am a home based bakery now, and it does add up!

How are the Aldi's chocolate chips?

So $1.67 for Ghirardelli is a good price.

I stocked up when they were 3/$5 and I had a coupon for $1.00 off 3. I thought 3 for $4 was pretty good. Those were Nestle.

I find the Aldi's semisweet chips to be just as good as the name brands....now if they would only have the milk chocolate ones I would be set.

What happened to the days when you could get them for $.49? I mis those days.

I haven't bought them for so long, but I think about a year ago, WM had hersheys for $.88 so I bought 20 or so....then I went back & they were out, so I price matched the WM brand LOL! and got a few of those.

Our friendly resident mouse got into some & I threw them out. Ick! I think I'm down to 3 or 4 bags & then I'm off to find a sale again.

BTW, mine are in plastic totes now, needless to say.

Bought some Hershey's chips on Saturday

    store sale - 2 for $4
coupon for .55 - doubled by store to $1, so they were a dollar a bag.

Late last summer our local grocery was cleaning out the 'chips'... they had their store brand semisweet chocolate and butterscotch chips for 50 cents a bag. I took all they had, about 15 bags in all, and BF looked at them, and then at me, at the checkout counter with all those bags of chips like I was crazy or something till he found out why. I don't bake with chips all that much and just used the last of the chocolate chips. I have about 3 bags of the butterscotch chips. It's a good thing the roomie doesn't know I have them or they would be gone or she'd be hounding me to make cookies.

It sounds like from what you all have said, I guess I'll be restocking at Aldi's.

I buy the generic milk chocolate chips. I also find that the Aldi brand semi-sweet choc. chips are very good in most of my recipes and they are only 99cents.
