Easy pecan turtles
Easy pecan turtles
Recipe DescriptionFrom Betty Crocker - SO easy and SO tasty!!Preparation Steps:Preheat oven to 300FLevel of Difficulty:Uber easyTime Needed:15 minutes + chilling time (30 min)Ingredients:90 pecan halvesServes:
30 soft caramel candies
6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp shortening (plus enough to grease foil)30 candiesDirections:Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil, shiny side up.
Grease foil.
Place 3 pecan halves in a "Y" for each cookie. Place an unwrapped caramel candy in the center of each "Y".
Bake 8-12 minutes, or long enough to melt caramel.
While baking, put choc chips and shortening in small pot over low heat. Stir constantly until chips are melted.
Remove baking sheet. Spread small amount of chocolate on top of each "Y".
Chill approx 1/2 hour on baking sheet, then remove and store.DH aka Mad Hen

My daughter made these this summer and won a blue ribbon at our local fair. I would suggest using the best chocolate carmels you can afford. We used Rolos and they were good, but I think if we used something better like the carmel filled Hershey's Kisses , they would of been even better.

I use plain old Brach's caramels; however, I *have* experimented with the chocolate. I like using the "Special Dark" chips, but not everyone I know likes dark chocolate, so when I make them for platters, I just use the regular semi-sweet.
