This really puts a new car purchase in perspective.

Nothing I haven't heard before, but a nice way to put it into perspective.
I have never owned a car and likely won't until I finish grad school.

Very interesting...Plus what he doesnt mention is what you would be saving on your car insurance by not having to pay for full coverage...

I loved that! I want to send it to my sister who always gets a new car every 2 years or so. I just bought a 2006 car, used from the dealer, but wish I drove the other one for a few more years.

True about the savings on Full Coverage, but I had my brand new Corolla (paid Ca$h for) and had it only 1 year when some stupid B$%&* Backed into me causing approx $1,000 worth of damage. Thankfully I had Full Coverage, as it paid for the damages.

Yes! That is why we will NEVER buy another new car. Our 2001 Corolla is PAID FOR, and we plan to drive it until Molly is old enough to drive (five more years), then it will be available for her to drive. Then we will pay CASH for another used car.

Thanks for sharing, no new car in our future for us, we dont want another "obligated debt" to pay.

Gotta love Dave
We've never bought a new car or had a car payment. Philip isn't "car crazy" like some guys are, for which I am very thankful! I pretty much don't care what we drive as long as it's reliable, safe, & we all fit.

We are getting ready to buy DS a car. We plan on paying cash but I am still going to make him look at this before we go "shopping".
Thanks for the link

Thank you. I have a fully paid for car and have never carried car payments for more than a few years, but have been thinking I might have to when I trade this time (I am really anticipating this car totally collapsing at any time). However, this is motivation to start saving NOW for one, and maybe I can buy a $1500 one for cash when I need to.
