    Default Unuathorized charges

I had canceled Vonage months ago, no fees for canceling because I was with them for years. A few days ago on my debit card that child support goes on, Vonage put a $95 charge on it. I used this card for a one time payment 5 months ago. I called Vonage and they were rude and hung up on me. Called the debit card and they are disputing it and now will take up to 2 weeks to get my money back.

Now I have to wait 5 days for a new card to get here. I was going to use that card tonight to buy my kids halloween costumes and now i'm gonna use a little bill money to pay for it.

    Ugh the frustration

Just wondering, but did you send back the router? We had Vonage for awhile and our first router died. They had to send us a new one, but wanted the old one back. We forgot about it, and they charged us 95$ for keeping the equipment. We sent it back and they refunded the charge. I was just wondering because of the same 95 dollars if this might be the case?

I sent the router back certified and they received it within a week of me canceling months ago.

I hope you get your money back. Skype put a $60 charge on my husband's debit card earlier this year. He had used Skype's FREE service briefly to call his brother in China (who had installed Skype for DH during a visit) and claims he never gave them his number. DH had been dissatisfied with Skype and removed the software from his computer at least two months before that charge was incured. We disputed through our bank and eventually they DENIED our claim and said the transaction had been 'verified by Visa'. BS. I'm convinced a clerk somewhere transposed numbers. We insisted they cancel that card and re-issue, so hopefully we won't get 'taken' again.

Good luck and I hope your bank and Vonage is more cooperative.

Uh oh, I would be ticked! I hope the same doesn't happen to us. I'm waiting till our contract is up with Vonage to cancel, but that's not till April. Would have been over this decemeber, but when I tried to cancel the service back last april, the cs rep explained all the charges associated with doing so and I just didn't have the $$ to pay them at the time. Then she "generously" offered 2 free months of service if I decided to stay with them, but never mentioned that if I took the offer that I would be essentially signing a new year long contract with them. Grrrr....I should have known better. Can't wait to be done with them.

Does your child support go to the card, or to the account to which the card is linked?

If the latter, you're fine - but if it goes to the card, you need to get the child support payment info updated.

    Sorry that happened!

Just wondering why so many are quitting Vonage? Sounds like when you try to quit that is when the problems arise, but is the quality of service bad too? I was considering switching to them.

Yikes! I've been there with the phone company stuff and I'll be honest, it was like pulling teeth to get anything settled. We were with our old company for five and a half years and trying to get switched over to our new company was a pain in the rear. I had to be on someone's behind for a month to get charges straightened out with both companies.

I'm sorry that they did this to you.

We actually really liked Vonage here, we had them for years without many problems, but we switched to Comcast because it ended up being cheaper. Compared to the cost of our previous cable/internet deal and vonage combined, we ended up saving nearly the whole of the Vonage bill plus got two more movie channels and faster internet. Our comcast went up just a few dollars, but we ended up saving about 30 dollars per month by switching. We didn't have any problems terminating the Vonage service.

I originally signed up with vonage because my DH started his new job as an over-the-road truck driver. We only had cells phones at that point (no land line) and I lost my cell phone for 2 days! I panicked because he had no way of reaching me besides email, so I decided we needed something other than our cells. Vonage seemed like the cheapest option. I want to cancel now because DH found a local job where he is home every night, so the cell phones will suffice for us now and I'm trying to cut down on bills. Never had a problem with the service though.

We're long time Vonage users. Their customer service just about matches their price.

But that's ok - Verizon's customer service matched Vonages price too - so I figured if I'm gonna get crappy service when I do have an issue, I may as well pay as little as possible for it.
