Spinoff: What do you like from Aldi?
We don't have an Aldi nearby, but I will be in RI at the end of Sept, and I've already told Dave that I want to check out one of the two there
So what do you like there? Anything in particular to avoid?
TIA!Last edited by Michelle; 08-05-2008 at 09:28 PM.

Here are my Aldi raves:
Cream Soups - just as good as Campbells.
Saltine Crackers - less than a dollar a box.
Sour Cream
Cream Cheese
taco seasoning
diced tomatoes with chilis (ro-tel)
and my not so goods:
applesauce
canned buttermilk biscuits

Favorites: String Cheese (individually wrapped), Yogurt tubes (for the kids)-same as Go-Gurt, milk (is cheaper than anywhere else in my town), liquid Hazelnut coffee creamer, frozen pepperoni pizza. I also buy my tomato paste, sauce, and cream soups there.
Dislikes: produce-is not any cheaper than anywhere else and doesn't look as nice, boxed flavored rice (like rice-a-roni)-cooks up very stiff. My mom doesn't like there canned carrots-I do buy corn and green beans and don't notice any difference.

Fit N' Active brand "hot pockets"

sugar
Light Ranch salad dressing (one of the best Ive ever had)
A few things we don't care for:
pasta sauce
hot dogs
pudding mix (vanilla)
yogurt

aldis is a great place
i love shopping there. with my husband working and food is cutting down i buy the roman noodles by the 12 ct box for $1.77 and I stock up on those for dinner options or when a quick snack.plus it is a 2 for 1. if i dont want the seasoning or the noodles I will use the seasoning packets to add flavoring in to meats, soups or even rice.
my husband likes to buy the bread there and Im not really liking it cuz its already old. got not freshness what so ever. and I like to have fresher bread then hard bread.
I get a lot of food here or SAL, whats not on sale at one store I will get there, and most times i get milk there cuz it is was cheaper the walmart or even meijers.

I buy the jumbo shrimp and the havarti imported cheese, and the Aldi's that I go to has some beautiful produce too.

This just goes to show personal taste, because Aldi spaghetti sauce is the only one my family will eat. I got some name brand stuff and they hated it. The only thing I've ever gotten at Aldi we didn't care for was their store brand Raisin Bran. I watch the produce for freshness, but here it is much cheaper than the regular store so I usually buy it at Aldi.
Our Favorites:
spaghetti sauce
'diet' lemonade mix (like crystal light but better)
turkey meatballs
cheese sticks
cereal (good frosted mini wheats)
peanut butter

Aldi is the only place I shop now for groceries. We don't have any favorites because everything I have bought so far my family has liked.

Likes:
-Spaghetti Rings...they taste just like Spaghetti-Os.
-Fit & Active Light Ranch
-Fit & Active dried fruit blend (berries)
-saltine crackers
-Cheese Doodles
-pretzel sticks
-5qt ice cream buckets
-canned tomatoes w/ chilies (like RoTel but in a bigger can)
-canned Chili beans
-canned Fit & Active fruit cocktail
-frozen stir fry mixes - oriental or teriyaki, but teriyaki is the BEST!
-my mom swears by the shrimp stir fry. It has the shrimp & veggies already in it she just makes minute rice on the side for a quick meal. I haven't tried it yet cuz it's a small bag & I'd need at least two...plus I have a couple of kids who hate shrimp
-hamburger & hot dog buns. They are super soft, which is strange because their bread is not.
Dislikes:
-garlic caesar dressing...tastes like FISH ick! And I love caesar
-canned tuna
-jarred spaghetti sauce
-"velveeta" type 'cheese'
-sliced american cheese - it flops like rubber and doesn't melt well on grilled cheese
-brick or shredded cheese - don't melt well and they have an odd aftertaste.
-bread - it's always hard in places, plus I can get better (quality) bread for less price at the commissary or the bread store.

I like the Mama Cozzi spaghetti sauce, the Fit & Active products and their frozen orange roughy and tilapia. The only thing I disliked enough to return and get my money back was their coffee.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will be purchasing mostly pantry items because I won't be able to bring it back w/o spoiling unless I bring the big cooler

We like many of their items and try a few new things each time I go. Some of our favorites are:
Vegetable Soup w/ beef broth (like Campbell's Alphabet but the tomato tastes rich not sweet)
Animal Crackers
Shredded Mild Cheddar
Moo Toobs (frozen yogurt tubes)
Chocolate chips (as rich as Nestle's IMO)
Apple Cinnamon cereal bars
Ripple potato chips
Frozen chicken breasts
I get a lot of fresh fruit, baby carrots, bagged salad, celery and colored peppers depending on their freshness. The earlier in the day I go the fresher they seem.
