The one in Murfreesboro has a really big selection of items and the store is always kept very clean & neat, for anyone in that general area.
For those of you who don't have anything in your immediate area, you can sometimes do a "search" online for grocery outlets, bent and dent, or salvage groceries in your area and sometimes something will pop up.Michelle in middle Tennessee!

Thank you for the info. I am going to Vermont in the near future and I usually hit Bennington on my travels so I am going to check their store out. I hope they have some good priced things.

None listed for Maine.
Are there any fellow Maine-iacs out there who might know of a place here that isn't listed?

salvage grocery stores
I shop at the United Grocery Outlet in Murphy, NC. They have fabulous bargains especially on brand name bacon and sausage. I can usually find a 16 oz. roll of breakfast sausage for $1 and have found on occasion 16 oz. package of center cut bacon for $1.49!!
Great store, friendly staff and super bargains. I can't ask for more!

It's missing a number of the Grocery Outlets in CA. If you are in California, do a Google, and you may find one near you.

I was also going to state the CA list is way too short. We have one in the next town over (Grocery Outlet) and let me tell you I LOVE IT!!! It's not a fancy schmancy grocery store, and for this grocery store snob I originally had a hard time going in just because it's not all pertty and shiny. But I LOVE THIS STORE
You can get incredible deals there - I buy pepperoni and salami in huge packs and throw them in the freezer for pizzas. Actually, anything in their refridgerated section is a great deal.
I've found things that are obvious non-sellers: new products that just aren't going to make it so they end up there. Some of them have been really good items and I'm sad I won't get them again
When Thermasilk changed their hair products to Sunsilk they sent all their overstock to GO. I went in and cleaned up on the hairspray taking all they had.
We also seem to get a lot of east coast stuff that they don't sell out here, or sells under a different name. Best Foods out here is Helleman's (sp) out there so I know it's good stuff.
Anyway, I go there often - and even my dh and grown kids like to go in cause the deals are that good! I LOVE THIS STORE

I wish we had one of these in CT. I've searched, but I don't think there are any. Boo!

There are 2 in a town 20 minutes from me. They weren't on the list though. I go about twice a year.

For those wondering what is a salvage grocery store? They are a store that usually sells all the groceries returned by a supermarket to their warehouse. Why were they returned? Sometimes due to a case getting dropped or punctured which ruins one or two cans or boxes. Sometimes due to a manufacturer overestimating how many of an item to produce. Sometimes due to a label change or warehouse closing. For whatever reason these excess goods must be sold. Items whose packaging is compromised are discarded and the rest sent out by the truckload to end up for sale at your local salvage grocery store. Savings are usually 30-50%.
You learn something new everyday on FV.

I know what you mean about the prices at the Grocery Outlets.
I found boxes of the Boca vegetarian soy crumbles for $1.00 per box the other day.
Those things go for close to $4.00 a box. I bought the last 6 they have because they are a frozen product and that's where I plan on storing them.
I also came up on Pepperidge Farms bread (the good stuff, whole wheat, wheat & flax, cinnamon & raisin, and honey & whole wheat) for $1.00 a loaf.
I bought like 15 loaves, Mike took 3 or 4 to work and the rest went into my freezer.
I won't have to buy bread for months!
I love shopping at them because it's kinda like a treasure hunt, you never know what you're gonna find!Michelle in middle Tennessee!

The Blue Knight that is in MI is okay, but I can still get my groceries cheaper at my local grocery stores after I use my coupons. Not as great as I thought it would be. Also, they have alot of processed food that I am not really into. Other salvage stores might be cheaper. Probably depends on each individual store.
