Default Another ? for any Village Mechanics

We recently became owners of a 93 Mazda 626 for my DD16, it was free from my aunt (yippee!). When it it moving, it runs smooth. When it is stopped (in park or in gear), it shakes. The RPMs dip below 1 to near 0. It doesnt cut off (yet) but it feels like it is getting ready to. Any ideas what this could be? TIA.

I am not a mechanic, but it sounds like the idle speed is simply set too low.

Would that still be the case if: For a couple of seconds, it will hold at the 1 rpm mark, then is just drops?

If so, I guess it is as simple as raising the idle (somehow)?

Possibly - cars can be intelligent enough to know when they need to increase idle to generate more electricity for the systems and recharging the battery. A 93 Mazda is young enough to have such computer controls.

As for how to adjust it? no clue...

O2 sensor may need replacing that can cause it to idle rough.

Here's a link to tell you how to adjust the idle on your Mazda 626:

If your gas line is fine (meaning there's no dirt in it and you've changed the filter already), then I would check this one out too:
